Fire Runs Out

We are through the first quarter of the season. It is just long enough to get a good feel about your team (where you're strong and where you're lacking), but it is not long enough to predict the rest of the season. Perhaps one of the hardest parts of fantasy football is actually winning your matchup; though it is not unreasonable for a team to go on a run. There are countless examples of teams going on winning/losing streaks in the league's history. Just look at the past champion LastCupChris, they were probably carrying a five game win streak into the season and still won their first three contests this season (granted with a different roster). Their run of success finally came to the end when they lost a fairly close game with Smooth Saddles, themselves putting up an undefeated record. Regardless of where one's team is at, don't get too comfortable a lot can happen between now and the end.

Seagrape Security is still continuing their torrid pace to begin the season. Despite having the last pick of the draft, they currently have two of the top three players in fantasy: DeMarco Murray and Antonio Brown. Overall, it's a solid team that will give anyone fits especially with Dez Bryant, Nick Foles, and two very good tight ends to round out the roster. This week they take on Slightly Buzzed who are coming off their first win. They are still looking for that complete game from their team and they hope this is the week. Some of the players have good matchups and are expecting to capitalize. Slightly Buzzed is hurting a bit because they think they may have jumped off the Bishop Sankey train too soon (deja vu Knowshon Moreno last season). Yahoo currently has each team's chances of winning at 50%, hopefully it lives up to the hype.

Another team that thinks they could be on the rise is Loading... who are on a two game win streak. A team loaded with potential and not afraid to rock the boat with roster moves. They like their chances against AND I JUST WENT OFF who have had a rocky start to their season. They are looking for their first W and think this week is the time to do it. Their slow start is surprising with several good players, particularly at receiver, on the roster. It would not be a surprise to see their team exceed expectations like they did last week. Also, it will be interesting to see how their team shapes up with Moreno, Ryan Matthews, and Vernon Davis all expected to be returning to the field in the near future.

There's one matchup that will have their eyes especially glued to Thursday night's game: Smooth Saddles and The Convicts. These teams have a combined five players in that game and it should be an indicator of what their teams are gonna need to do on Sunday. It has been an uncharacteristically rough start for The Convicts, who are definitely missing Adrain Peterson. They had a narrow loss this pass weekend, however most of their players have ideal matchups, it wouldn't be a surprise for them to end their losing streak this week. Smooth Saddles are the league's only other undefeated team. They may of had a few "questionable" wins, but their team appears to be coming together. They are hoping to be bolstered by a healthy Jamaal Charles, the return of Giovanni Bernard, and Wes Welker. The Commissioner thinks that this will be the closest contest of them all (hope that's not a jinx).

The one team that is most thankful for the Week 4 bye week being over is House Hodor (*). They were without some of their highest point getters: Peyton Manning, Marshawn Lynch, and Percy Harvin. Arguably, Jordy Nelson may be the best player on this team; he has been shredding the stat book. On a two game skid they are hungry for the win against Dickle Pickle. Dickle Pickle has been scoring more points than in year's past, but it has not translated into many wins yet. Matt Forte appears to be back on track and Julius Thomas is returning from a bye so teaming them up with Julio Jones and Drew Brees they could be in store for a big week.

LastCupChris has not been in this position in awhile: coming off a loss. First, let me share a passage from the great Katt Williams:

You need haters. What the fuck is you complaining about? What the fuck do you think a hater’s job is? To fucking hate. So let them motherfuckers do their goddamn job.

One this is a great quote and two LastCupChris insists that "haters gonna hate." Led by the best player in fantasy, Andrew Luck, they should consistently put up high scores. This team could be scary once LeSean McCoy gets back to being his old self. Their opponent this week, Those Magic Fingers may have found their X Factor: big ol' bad Phillip Rivers. With Rivers, a healthy Brandon Marshall, and Jimmy Graham this looks like a team set for the long run.

P.S. I finished Breaking Bad the other week. Definitely a really good show, I don't know about the best ever, but a good show. Walter White, Jesse Pinkman, and Saul Goodman all are great...Skylar White not so much.

(*) The last post mistakenly referred to House Hondor as Team Hondor. Apologizes.
